Please read: This tool gives guidance, not guarantees. It points out warning signs so you can make a safer decision. Clever scams can look real. When money or personal information is involved, always verify through the company's official phone number or website — never the number in the suspicious message. This is general information, not legal or financial advice.

The 5 Warning Signs of Almost Every Scam

  1. Urgency or threats. "Act now or your account closes!" Real companies give you time.
  2. Asking for gift cards, wire transfers, or crypto. If payment is mentioned in gift cards, it is a scam. Every time.
  3. Asking for passwords or codes. Banks and the government never ask for these by text, email, or phone.
  4. A link that looks "almost right." Scammers use addresses like bankofamerica-security.net instead of the real site.
  5. Secrecy. "Don't tell anyone." Scammers say this so nobody warns you. Always tell someone you trust.
